WHAT STYLE & SIZE SHOULD I BUY?

There are two styles of Natural Rubber Soothers:

 Round (AKA Cherry)

 Orthodontic (AKA Ortho)

They both have the same size shield and come in multiple sizes which match the age of your baby.

Round dummy

The Round Natural Rubber Soother comes in three sizes, small (0-3 months), medium (3-6months) and large (6 months+). Our round shape dummy is best for breastfed babies as it helps with nipple confusion. Midwives usually recommended starting babies on a round soother because about 80% of them tend to move the soother around in their mouths, so having a round dummy means it can never end up the wrong way around.

Orthodontic dummy

The Ortho Natural Rubber Soother teat has a slant on one side of the teat. This is to encourage tongue movement against it (as opposed to under it). The tongue’s pressure is directed towards the tip. This shape helps avoid future orthodontic issues and is perfect for babies who are already accustomed to the orthodontic shape. It is available in two sizes, small (0-6 months) and large (6 months+).

WHAT ARE THE NATURAL RUBBER SOOTHER DUMMIES MADE OF?

The Natural Rubber Soother dummies and teethers are made from a single piece of 100% pure Natural Rubber fashioned from the sap of a Hevea Brasiliensis tree. It is compostable and free from any chemical nasties.

DO THE NATURAL RUBBER SOOTHER DUMMIES MEET SAFETY STANDARDS?

Absolutely! Proudly the Natural Rubber Soothers meet both Australian and European safety standards.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY NATURAL RUBBER SOOTHER?

Initial care instructions:

Before you use your Natural Rubber Soother sterilise the dummy by placing it in boiling water for 5 mins. This process will remove the oily film that naturally occurs on the rubber. Always allow the dummy to cool before giving it to your baby and do not leave the dummy it the water for any longer than recommended.

Ongoing care instructions:

Just wash it in warm water with mild liquid soap every day. If you think it requires extra sterilisation simply put the dummy in a cooking strainer and pour boiling water over the top. Do not place in a bottle sterilizer, a dishwasher or leave in boiling water after the initial clean.

HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD I CHANGE MY SOOTHER?

This depends on how frequently you use them. If you have more dummies in rotation you’ll use them less frequently and require less frequent replacement but as a guide Natural Rubber Soothers should be replaced every 8-12 weeks with the size appropriate to your baby’s age. As long as you inspect the dummy before each use (especially when your child has teeth) there is no harm in using it for a longer, but you may start to notice natural wear in the dummy. The rubber will get darker and possibly sticky when it’s time to replace the dummy.

It’s also recommended that you provide your child with the age appropriate size. Simple replace a small with a medium at 3 months and a medium with a large at 6 months. However these sizes are only a guide as some babies prefer a larger or smaller nipple.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED THAT THE SHIELD TOUCHES MY BABY’S NOSE?

Not at all! This is deliberate. We’ve designed the large rubber shield to gently touch your baby’s nose as it helps simulate breastfeeding. This offers them the same secure feeling they get from their mothers breast while they are feeding.

WHY ARE MY DUMMY’S DIFFERENT SHADES?

Natural Rubber Soothers are 100% natural and free from artificial colours, so they often come in a range of different shades. Just like organic fruit or veggies some will be darker than others. It’s the wonder of nature.

IS IT NORMAL FOR MY DUMMY TO GET DARKER OVER TIME?

Completely! The absence of chemicals or anti-oxidants that keep it light means that the rubber can sometimes darken as time goes by. It’s just an effect of using 100% natural products and is not an issue.

WHY DOES MY DUMMY HAVE A WHITISH LAYER?

This ‘whitish’ film is just scale that can attach to the dummy if it’s left in water for too long. It’s harmless and should disappear after a couple of washes with warm water and mild soap.

Scale builds up when the dummy is left in water so it’s important not to leave your Natural Rubber Soother in water after the very first sterilization. Not only can scale build up but the water will make the dummy look dull and could cause it to age and become sticky more quickly.
